Fishing report for March 29: Tarpon on way, then the sharks

March 29, 2015

What the Bill Jackson’s fishing Report is the findings our fishing staff is hearing and seeing out on the water:

Tarpon are moving into the Tampa Bay area, with reports of good action near the Skyway Bridge. And when the tarpon show up, the big hammerhead and bull sharks are right behind them.

Also showing in the area are cobia. If you can see them near the surface, that’s a good sign that they’re hungry.

It’s about the time of year when a lot of anglers will fish around piers and docks. Work the water near the docklights for an inshore slam of trout, redfish and snook.

Freshwater anglers, be on alert. Alligator mating season typically starts in April, so they will be more aggressive and more active. Be especially wary when out at night.

That’s today’s Fishing Report.
