Our Staff
Bill Jackson's staff members know fishing, first and foremost. These passionate anglers spend hours and hours on the water when they’re not in the Shack. In fact, many guide on the side, so they know what’s working, and more important, why a lure or bait or fly is working. They love to point Tampa Bay visitors and locals to the popular spots and, maybe, they’ll reveal a real gem or two that not everybody knows about. Because they fish so much, they can give you experienced reviews on the gear we have in stock and advise you on the best setup for your adventure. You’ll find they are a most valuable resource before your trip.
Private and Group
Fly Casting Instruction
The art of fly casting is best perfected through personal instruction and close adherence to a program of skills practice. We offer private ($78, by appointment) and group ($25, second and fourth Saturdays) casting classes. If you purchase a fly rod from us, the group casting class is free. If you take the group casting class and then decide to buy a fly rod that day, the $25 goes toward that rod purchase. Learn more about our Fly Casting Instruction.
Fly Tying Classes
We’ve revamped our fly tying offerings to give novice and experienced tyers a better instructional setting. Our four-session Novice Fly Tying Class is limited to six tyers and goes over the basics of tools and materials. Our once-a-month Advanced Fly Crafting Class is for the experienced tyers who want to expand on their creativity. Our staff will teach you how to tie the flies that catch Tampa Bay area fish, such as snook, trout and redfish. Learn about our Fly Tying Classes here or by calling the Fishing Shack at 727-576-4169.
