With Tampa Bay’s beautiful weather and plentiful sunshine it might seem laughable to go anywhere else for adventure. However, there are a number of sports you can only experience by heading into the cold.
Winter is one of the best times to engage in blood-pumping activities you may otherwise never try. So grab your adventure gear, the right clothing, and a group of friends, then experience some of the most popular thrill-seeking winter sports for seekers.
Ice Surfing
Florida has some of the best surf spots on water. But if you’re looking for a different thrill, try ice surfing. Ice surfing is similar to wind surfing, but the sail propels you and the board across the ice at 70 mph. Avoid areas with thin ice and surf an area free of trees.
Snow Kayaking
If sledding doesn’t give you the same adrenaline rush it used to, change out the sled for a kayak. The kayak gives you more momentum than your standard sled, and it can be difficult to steer on the snow compared to water. However, with some practice, you can get the hang of it and easily pick up speed without fear.
Ice Climbing
If you’re a fan of rock climbing and bouldering, ice climbing is the winter version you may want to try. Hire a professional to guide you during your first few climbs. After some practice and plenty of exercise, you can make your way up frozen waterfalls. This is one of those adventures where you’ll definitely want some company.
Ice Diving
For those who enjoy scuba diving and are looking for something different, ice diving can be an incredible experience. With special training and special equipment, you can explore life under the ice just as you would at the coral reef. However, this sport is dangerous, and it’s important you get the proper knowledge and equipment. Do not do this alone.
It’s always a good idea to get the right adventure gear before heading out on thrill-seeking adventures. Contact your local outdoor retailer to get properly outfit and get the most out of your experiences.
